NewMotion manages and operates a European network of more than 60.000 online charge points with a custom made back-office. In addition to our back-office we build online portals and mobile apps to serve our customers. We integrate with a lot of other charge point and charge card providers across Europe. To join our international Technology & Innovation department we are looking for an experienced Technical Architect with particular expertise in core data and services.


Work on creating a central core data and services architecture which will become backbone for all Newmotion applications and services. This includes consolidation of the asset management, creation of the specialist data stores for transactional and timeseries data as well as putting forward strategy, architecture and implementation of the data visualisation and corresponding data access APIs. This position is a key addition to the teams of architects who are responsible for end-to-end technology strategy at Newmotion.

You will also contribute to broader system design discussions and decision making contributing to overall Shell e-mobility technology strategy.

Provide technical leadership and mentoring to more junior engineers;

Campaign, persuade and work with the teams to onboard new ways of managing data and driving core services reuse across all the teams.


  • Minimum 5 years of work experience with various data storage techniques ranging from traditional RDBMS to NO-SQL technologies with excellent understanding of data mesh concepts and practical implementation.

  • Informed and experienced in various technologies within data platform ecosystem with strong preference for AWS frameworks:
    • MPP databases, e.g. AWS Redshift, SnowFlake, DynamoDB, Teradata, Vertica, Cassandra

    • Classic MapReduce model AWS EMR, Cloudera

    • Streaming solutions – AWS Kinesis, Kafka, Spark Streaming, Flink

    • In-memory stores – ElastiCache, Redis, Memcached

    • Document based storage – AWS DocumentDB, ElasticSearch, MongoDB

  • Great practical experience in applying consistency vs availability challenge for various types of data

  • Strong experience with master reference, transactional and time series data.

  • Excellent working knowledge of the data storage technologies offered by AWS

  • Strong data structures, design, algorithms, and coding skills

  • Excellent understanding of data security by design, private data implications, multi-tenanted data storage approaches.

  • Excellent current development skills in Python, Go(lang); experience with Scala or Java will be helpful too.

  • Experience with large scale data processing, both batch and real time.

  • Good knowledge and practical experience in development of microservices using service mesh, microservices security, configuration, orchestration, monitoring and end-to-end lifecycle management

  • Proven experience with developing mission critical, real time, cloud-based solutions (preferably in AWS) using kubernetes or serverless computing

  • Good knowledge and practical experience in development of microservices using service mesh, microservices security, configuration, orchestration, monitoring and end-to-end lifecycle management

  • Prior experience with continuous CI/CD, and GitLab AutoDevops is a plus

  • Experience with data science and/or machine learning is a bonus

  • Experience with Scrum and/or Kanban is a plus;

  • Self-motivated to explore new technologies, applications and environments;

  • Self-starter, great sense of responsibility, team-player;

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
